The upper gallery
At the top of the two stairs the landing becomes a gallery. It crosses the house between its two tall rooms: the round hall on one side, the great room and its window wall on the other.
A design illustration, not a photograph of a house.
Two ways to look
The same few steps of floor, facing one way and then the other.

Over the hall
Looking back the way you came. The stair arrives beside you; the rings of light hang level with your eye, and the window over the front doors is across the room.

Over the great room
Turn round, and the great room is below: the seating by the fire, and the three arched windows to the garden rising past the gallery to the ceiling.
